After conducting a search of a car stopped in the 7600 block of Somerset Crossing Drive in Gainesville, Prince William County police recovered heroin.
As a result of the search, police charged Austin Riley Crosby, 20, of Broad Run with possession with intent to distribute a schedule I or II narcotic.
"Following the investigation, the accused was arrested without incident," police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said.
The incident, which occurred Jan. 9, was not previously released as the investigation was ongoing.
Crosby's court date is set for April 12, 2013, and he was released at the time of the arrest on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
