Gainesville Woman Escapes Sexual Assault

policecrusierclosePrince William County police charged Maaz Malik, 22, of Gainesville in connection with an attempted assault the morning of May 19 of a 28-year-old woman. According to the victim, Malik broke into her home, located in the 7600 block of Jade Drive in Gainesville. "The investigation revealed that the victim, a 28-year-old woman, was in an upper level bedroom sleeping when an unknown male entered the room and attempted to sexually assault her," police spokesman Officer Nathaniel J. Probus said. Police said the victim managed to escape uninjured and contact police; the suspect also fled the area before the police arrived. Malik allegedly made entry through an unsecured rear door.

During the investigation, detectives identified Malik as the accused, who was located and arrested without further incident.

Police charged Malik with burglary and attempted forcible sodomy. The suspect's court date is July 15, 2015 and he is held without bond.
