Gov. Planners Identify Gainesville as Community Poised for Major Growth

Posted

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) identified the 139 communities in metropolitan Washington that were poised for major growth and Gainesville made the list.

Called “Activity Centers,” these diverse communities include cities and towns that offer significant development opportunities and have infrastructures in place to support future growth.

“I think for several reasons is a great place to live. People want to move here, live here. There are really great schools in PWC, and a lower cost of living than in the surrounding area,” Gainesville District Supervisor Peter Candland said. “Employers are attracted to where good, highly educated people are living, high quality professionals.”

While two-thirds of the Activity Centers are served by the region’s rail transit system, Gainesville makes the list because the COG expects the town to experience continued population and employment growth over the next several decades.

According to the COG, the study will be used to support planning efforts, guide investments in infrastructure and analyze growth.

Other Prince William County communities on the list include, the City of Manassas and Manassas Park, and North Woodbridge.
