Police report that the owner has recovered the firearm

"Further investigation determined it was not stolen nor was there a burglary," police spokesman Officer Nathan Probus said.  "This case has been cleared unfounded."

Prince William County Police are investigating the theft of a firearm Nov. 7 from a residence located in the 14200 block of Legend Glen Court in Gainesville.

According to the homeowner, the burglary occurred between 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

"The investigation revealed that there were no signs of forced entry into the residence," police spokesman Officer Nathan Probus said. "A firearm was reported missing."
