Jefferson Street/Old Carolina Road I-66 Overpass Closes Sept. 22

Posted

The Virginia Department of Transportation has announced that the I-66 overpass at Jefferson Street/Old Carolina Road will close Sept. 22 and reopen in the spring of 2016.

"This closure may impact your commuting pattern, the route you use to drop off or pick up your children at school, or how you may walk or bike to/from businesses," a Haymarket town official said in a release.

Police are warning residents to plan ahead of the closure and suggest Catharpin Road as an alternate route.

This closure is part of the I-66 renovation that will add an HOV and one regular lane in each direction from Rt. 15 in Gainesville to Rt. 29 in Haymarket. VDOT is reconstructing overpasses at Catharpin Road and Old Carolina Road/S. Jefferson Street with 10-foot shared-use paths.

VDOT expects the project to be completed in August 2016.

More detailed information on this project is available on the VDOT website at http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/northernvirginia/i-66_widening.asp or the Town of Haymarket website at http://townofhaymarket.org/index.php/current-developments
