Fire & Rescue crews battled a fire at a sing-family home in Gainesville 4:30 p.m. May 6, which the fire marshall said was ignited by a lightning strike.

Crews from Gainesville, Haymarket, Evergreen, Stonewall Jackson and Manassas arrived to fire blazing through the roof of the residence, located n the 6300 block of Adirondack Court.

"As firefighters commenced defensive operations, the fire began to engulf the second floor causing a portion of that floor to collapse," Department of Fire & Rescue Communications Specialist Kim Y. Hylander said.

The firefighters reported a good knock down of flames 5:15 p.m. and extinguished the majority of the fire by 6:39 p.m. and found no extension.

Hylander reported no injuries and Red Cross assisted two adults, who were displaced by the fire.

A building official deemed the property unsafe.

According to the Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire has been determined as natural and reports $400,000 in damages to the Gainesville home.
