Man Caught Stealing from Local Real Estate Open Houses

According to Prince William County Police, Erik David Johnson, 46, of Ashburn has been using real estate open house events to steal from Gainesville Homes since August 2015.

The investigation into Johnson's activities concluded March 8 with police charging Johnson with four counts of burglary and four counts of grand larceny.

"The investigation revealed that the accused attended several real estate open houses and provided false information to tour the homes," police spokesman Officer Nathan Probus said. "While touring the homes, the accused stole more than $15,000 worth of jewelry, prescription medication and electronics, which he later attempted to pawn at various businesses in Loudoun County."

Detectives identified the suspect and a search warrant was executed at his residence, where police found evidence of the larcenies.

Johnson was located and arrested without incident; additional charges are pending.

His court date is April 7, 2016  and he is held without bond.
