Man Dies in Collapse of 30-Foot-Tall Shelving Unit at Manassas Warehouse

reinEmergency crews responded to Reinhart Food Services warehouse, located at 11777 Balls Ford Road in Manassas, for reports of a structure collapse Tuesday afternoon, which killed one and injured others.

According to Prince William County Police, at approximately at 3:30 p.m. a 30-foot-tall interior rack system used to store food products in a freezer unit at the facility collapsed on several employees; one employee, an adult male, was killed.

Multiple other employees were injured, some critically, and transported to various area hospitals for treatment.

"The deceased victim will be transported to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy," police spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Perok said. "The exact cause of the rack system's collapse is not known at this time."

Prince William County Police Homicide Unit, the Department of Fire and Rescue and investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are jointly investigating the incident.

"The identity of the deceased will be released once positive identification is confirmed and next of kin notified," Perok said.

Reinhart Food Services provides products to local restaurants.
