Rain or shine, organizers say “Santa can’t be stopped,” and the 69th Annual Greater Manassas Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday at 10  a.m.

This year, the parade will recognize two unsung community heroes. Steve Randolph will serve as the Grand Marshal and Meg Carroll has been named Woman of the Year.

Randolph is a very involved Manassas citizen, who is best known for having served on the City Council since 1986. Carroll has served on the Manassas police force for nearly 25 in various capacities. For the last three years, she has worked as the Community Manager for Georgetown South.

The parade begins on Mathis Avenue and Liberia Avenue with the road scheduled to close at 8 a.m. It runs east on Mathis turning right on Sudley Road and progressing north. The parade will make a left onto Center Street and continue through the Historic District, ending at Peabody Street, where the road will close at 9:45 a.m.

Portable restrooms have been situated located throughout the route. There will be a regular parking on Peabody Street and Lee Avenue. There will be handicapped parking available in the BB&T parking lot located on Center Street and the 7-11 parking lot located at the corner of Grant and Center Street.

A few lucky children won the chance to join Santa on his float by finding a golden ticket. Tickets were a part of an Old Town Historic District holiday retail promotion.

Every year the parade features a theme. This year’s theme is “A Christmas Fantasy.”

After the parade, stay and shop in the Historic District.
