Prince William County police executed a search warrant April 22 that led to the arrest of Khanh Hoang Hong, 44, of Manassas on charges of burglary and two counts each of felony animal cruelty and grand larceny--animal.

The owner of a home on the 7500 block of Quail Run Lane in Manassas reported to police April 17 that an individual entered the home through an unlocked basement sliding glass door and allegedly took her two dogs.

“The homeowner discovered blood throughout the residence and reported that both of her dogs, a male and female West Highland Terrier, were missing,” police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said.

The male dog was found injured by a passing motorist and brought to a local veterinarian for treatment.

“A separate caller reported to police that a female dog was found deceased in a trash bag with her mouth and legs duct taped together in the area of Copeland Drive,” Perok said. “The dog was later determined to be the homeowner’s second dog reported missing during the burglary.”

Following an investigation, detectives determined that the incident stemmed from a relationship dispute between Hong and the homeowner.

“The investigation revealed that the accused had entered the residence and duct taped both of the dog’s legs and mouths before putting them in his trunk,” Perok said. “The accused then drove to the area of Copeland Drive where he dumped the female dog on the side of the road, where she was later found by a citizen.”

According to police, Hong was driving in the area of Thoroughfare Drive when he discovered the second dog had gotten out of the restraints and was loose in the vehicle's trunk. At that point, he released the dog.

Police confiscated evidence from the incident at the home of the accused.

“The male dog has been treated and returned back to the homeowner,” Perok said.

Hong’s court date is set for June 13, and he is being held without bond.
