Men Charged with Stealing Copper from Gainesville Research Facility

Following an investigation, detectives from the Property Crimes Unit arrested Christopher James MacMillian, 41, and Matthew Lee MacMillian, 29, for removing copper piping from Atlantic Research Corp.

Detectives, who responded to a report of suspicious individuals near 5945 Wellington Road in Gainesville, stopped the two Manassas men Feb. 25.

“The investigation revealed that the men had removed a large amount of copper piping from the facility and placed it in an area where they were about to pick it up,” police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said.

According to police, both men were charged with burglary, grand larceny with intent to sell, and destruction of property.

Court date and bond information is currently unavailable.
