UPDATED: Missing Gainesville Boy Traveled Half Mile

Police report that Prince William and Haymarket Town officers found John Peden, 14, less than a half a mile to Gary Fisher Trail and Trek Way around 6 p.m. Thursday.

In a statement on Facebook, the boy's father Chris Peden offered his thanks to the Prince William County Police Department.

"Thanks to the PWCPD and the other Police Departments who collaborated on finding my son," he said. "He is home safe and coming down off his adventure."

The Prince William County police report that John Peden, 14, who was reported missing Thursday afternoon from a martial arts studio located in the Heritage Village Plaza in Gainesville has been found.

Peden, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, was last seen running along the wood-line near Heathcote Boulevard before he was found.

Police feared that due to his condition he might run or get scared if approached.

"The missing child has been located and is safe, thank you everyone for sharing the post!" police posted on Facebook.

Police initially asked for the public's help in finding the boy, who went missing around 5 p.m.
