Nokesville Business Association Organizes First Annual Christmas Parade

After years of discussions, the Nokesville Business Association has announced their First Annual Christmas Parade will commence at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 8.

"We have considered doing this for a long time and this year the circumstances just happened to work out," Barbara Bowling, Christmas Parade Committee member, said.

The parade will travel from Nokesville Elementary School, down Fitzwater Drive, to the Nokesville Church of the Brethren.

"Afterwards we will light the tree, enjoy a live nativity on the front lawn of the Brethren Church and enjoy free chili, hot dogs, desserts and drink at the Church as well as a special appearance of Santa Claus and free horse drawn carriage rides," Bowling said.

The Live Nativity will commence on the lawn of the Brethren Church at 5:00 p.m.

Among the dignitaries scheduled to appear is  Brentsville District Supervisor Wally Covington, who will be the Grand Marshall of the parade. Delegate Richard L. Anderson, Brentsville District School Board Representative Gil Trenum, and Nokesville Citizen of the Year Dona Swanson will also be riding in the parade.

"There will be local bands, floats, marching units, monster trucks, horses, dance teams and lots more," Bowling said.

Furthermore, children can bring a dry box or can of food when they visit with Santa Claus in the Fellowship Hall

All donated food items will be given to SERVE .

The NBA will accept entries for the parade until the end of the day on Nov. 17. For entry applications and information, residents are asked to call 703.594.2000 or visit the Nokesville Print & Copy Center.
