The closure of the Aden Road Bridge and the associated detours hindered plans to hold Saturday's Nokesville Day parade on its traditional Fitzwater Drive route. However, the Nokesville-Bristow Ruritans have a new plan that will enable the decades-old tradition to continue.

According to organizers, the parade will now line up on a small access road behind Brentsville District High School and will march from The Nokesville School, cross this access road, continue in front of the high school to the end of the Aden Road bus loop.

Although shorter than the mile-long Fitswater route, organizers feel this alternative will capture the spirit of the event.

"This route is about a third of a mile (If I had to guess) and there is plenty of spaces on both sides of this route that watchers can bring chairs, blankets, and sit and enjoy the parade!" they said.

Vendors will be located in the student lot in front of BDHS.

Parking for the event is available in two lots at The Nokesville School, along Fitzwater Drive, the old Nokesville Elementary School lot, and limited parking in the student lot at BDHS, which has some handicapped parking spaces.  Shuttles will be available at the three school sites.

"The parade will go on! This is a huge draw for our community and we can actually make this work and the areas that people can view the parade are ideal," they said.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 16.
