Nokesville Resident Starts Attic Fire Attempting to Remove Wasp's Nest

fireandrescue2-240x180A Nokesville resident started a small fire Saturday attempting to remove a wasp's nest from his home.

According to Department of Fire and Rescue Communications Specialist Kim Hylander, at 12:50 p.m., firefighters  responded to a structure fire in a single family home, located in the 11800 block of Parkgate Drive.

"Upon arrival, firefighters observed a fire had been extinguished, by the occupant, with a garden hose," Hylander said.  "The occupant was attempting to remove a wasp’s nest in the eave of the roof using brake cleaner."

No injuries were reported.

Following an investigation, the Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire started in the attic; the cause has been determined as accidental.

Preliminary damages are estimated at $200.00.
