NOVEC: Power Restoration May Take Days for Some

Posted

NOVEC will be very busy for the next couple days.

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative crews will work through the night to restore power to approximately 802 in Prince William County customers who are still without power as of 6:00 p.m.

The heavy, wet snow that fell in the western end of the county is causing a number of issues for power crews. The Cooperative has deployed a large repair force to deal with the fallen branches and trees.

Haymarket and Nokesville experienced the heaviest concentration of outages.

However, for some who lost their power, restoration may take more time.

“Due to the severity of this storm however, some outages may last more than 24 hours,” they said.

“Arbor crews are cutting trees and branches off power lines,” Vice President, System Operations Larry Shaffer said. “They’re followed by line technicians who are reconnecting lines. Working with electricity in snow and rain is dangerous enough, but now we’ve got winds blowing 20 to 30 miles per hour to complicate things.”

Shaffer says he realizes that being without power means customers are uncomfortable.

“No one wants to be cold and in the dark. That’s why we’re going to work all night and tomorrow as quickly and as safely as we can to get the lights back on for everyone.”

Customers should continue to prepare for possible power outages and should report any outages online or by calling 1-888-335-0500.
