Original Road Rooster Recovered in Fauquier County

The two road roosters on Route 28/Nokesville Road will soon celebrate the return of their lost sibling. Leanne Dronet of Bristow, the owner of the sculpture, told Bristow Beat that an animal control officer found the original metal rooster in the back yard at a residence in Summerduck Village in Fauquier County. Through social media, Dronet was able to ultimately connect with the man, who she said had identified her rooster through the photos in the media and on Facebook. When he realized that this was the missing sculpture, he contacted police, who in turn called Dronet. Police told Dronet that a man allegedly found the rooster "in the woods on a farm in Nokesville a few weeks ago while hunting." They said he took it from that location because he liked how it looked; however, he cannot remember specifically where he found it. The rooster is currently in Fauquier County police custody and could be returned to Dronet this week. The rooster sculpture, which Dronet had chained to a mailbox for two years, was taken July 27 between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
The initial theft of the road rooster caused quite a stir on Facebook and the local media. She has since replaced the original sculpture with two new rooster sculptures that are painted for different occasions.
