Police Charge Man in Chemical Attack on 64-year-old Woman

Prince William County Police charged Mario Roberto Martel-Carbajal, 29, with robbery, malicious wounding and grand larceny following an alleged attack Feb. 27 on a 64-year-old Manassas Park woman, who was looking to sell him jewelry.

According to the victim, she made arrangements to meet with the accused, whom she knew, in the area of the 10900 block of Coverstone Drive.

"Once in the area, the accused sprayed a chemical in the victim’s face before striking her with the chemical’s canister," police spokesperson Officer Jonathan Perok said. "The accused then took a bag containing the jewelry and fled on foot."

Police report minor injuries to the woman.

"Following the investigation, detectives from the Robbery Unit obtained warrants for the arrest of the accused who was later located at an address on Coverstone Drive and arrested without further incident," Perok said.

Martel-Carbajal's court date is April 8; his bond information was not released.
