Police discovered 19-year-old Ferrum College linebacker and former Battlefield High School Bobcat Zavier Stringfellow dead in his vehicle Dec. 28 from stab wounds in his upper body.

National and local law enforcement officials arrested Johnny Bonilla, 22, of Gainesville for the murder, but they are still investigating a possible motive for the homicide.

“Police determined that the suspect and victim did not know each other prior to the evening of the incident,” a spokesman for the Fairfax County Police Department said.

Police report that the two men had no prior history, but had arranged a meeting that night.

“They had planned to meet up on the evening of Friday, Dec. 28. Apparently, they met; there was a struggle and the victim was stabbed.”

Stringfellow was an All-State football player and member of the 2010 State Champion Battlefield High School Team. He graduated in 2011.
