Police Search for Man for Sexual Assault of Young Gainesville Woman

 The Prince William County Police Department is asking for the public’s help in providing information about a sexual assault, which according to reports, occurred in the Gainesville area of Prince William County between 9:45 and 10 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim, a 19-year-old woman, was walking in the area of Route 29 (Lee Highway) and Gainesville Square Shopping Center when a man approached her from behind and pushed her down an embankment. There, he sexually assaulted her.

“She fought with him for several minutes and was eventually able to get away” said First Sergeant Kim Chinn, Public Information Office Supervisor. “As she climbed out of the embankment, she was screaming and a citizen stopped to help her.” The suspect was last seen running into the woods near Route 29. The man has not yet been apprehended, despite the police dispatching helicopters and K9s to search for him Wednesday night. The suspect is described as:
  •             Hispanic male 25-35 years of age
  •             5’6” tall
  •             Muscular but thin build
  •             Short dark crew cut hair
  •             No facial hair
  •             White shirt t-shirt or tank top
  •             Baggy jeans
  •             No weapon displayed
  •             He may have some injuries to his face, shoulder and hands from the struggle.
  •             Prior to the offense he was seen riding a bike in the area.
