The Leesburg Police Department has announced that the missing Leesburg man, Willard Hurley II has been found in Texas.

"Willard (Bill) Hurley was located safe and sound this afternoon in Texas after a citizen recognized him from earlier media releases," wrote a media contact for the Leesburg Police.

The citizen contacted the local police department who responded to confirm his identity.

Bill Hurley's departure received wide-spread media attention, when his son, pro-golfer Billy Hurley III, made it public at the Quicken's Loan National Tour, which is taking place in Gainesville, Virginia this week. Hurley III, who grew up in Leesburg, hoped all of the attention would help to locate his father.

According to the Leesburg police, Hurley left his Leesburg residence, Sunday July 19, 2015, and was reported as missing by his family on Monday July 27.

"Mr. Hurley stated to our detective that he is fine physically and is simply traveling," wrote the media contact for Leesburg Police in a release. "Mr. Hurley did not wish to reveal the reasons behind his departure."

Bill Hurley served as a Prince William Police officer for 25 years.

PGA Tour Golfer Billy Hurley III is using the publicity surrounding the Quicken Loans National Tournament in Gainesville to help locate his missing father, Willard Hurley II, who is 61 years of age.

The elder Hurley lives in Leesburg, Virginia, where Billy also grew up. Hurley served as a Prince William Police Officer for 25 years.

According to the Leesburg Police Department Facebook page, Mrs. Hurley filed a missing person report on July 27.

Hurley left the residence in his green 1998 Ford F150 truck with Virginia license plate numbr YWH-5898. The camper has a shell on the back.

After leaving Leesburg, Hurley used a credit card to buy gas in Woodstood Virginia, and stayed over night at a hotel in Texarkana, Texas.

Hurley is 5’10”, 210 pounds with brown eyes and grey hair.

Billy Hurley III was choked up when he spoke about his father to the media at Gainesville’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Club prior to the tournament.

William Hurley II has no record of mental illness.
