UPDATED: PWC Police Officer Involved in Nokesville Road/Piper Lane Accident

The Prince William County Police are asking citizens to refrain from reporting details and the names of individuals involved in the accident.

"Prince William County Police Department respectfully request that citizens do not place any further specifics regarding the crash or the people involved," they posted on their Facebook page. "We appreciate your kindness toward the families and our police family."

The police said they will release details as they gather information.

Police report an accident involving a Prince William County Police Officer at Nokesville Road (Va. 28) and Piper Lane.

While no details about the cause of the accident or the condition of the police officer have been released, police have shut down traffic at the intersection and suggest motorists avoid the area.

According to initial reports, the accident involved a van and a motorcycle.

"Keep the Officer and their colleagues in your thoughts as this unfolds," the Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue asks on their Facebook page.

The crash occurred sometime after 2:30 p.m. Monday.
