PWCS Alters Recommendations for 12th HS Attendance Area

Posted

Representatives for Prince William County Schools have announced that they are altering their administrative recommendations for the 12th high school boundaries in response to input they received from citizens.

One significant change is that the new recommendations will no longer affect the Battlefield High School attendance area.

Members of the Battlefield High School attendence area who reside in neighborhoods around Cerro Gordo Road requested that their children remain in their current attendance area. Parents said it is too far for their children to travel to Brentsville District High School. Residents also said they identify with the Haymarket community.

Other changes will affect the Brentsville attendance area and mid-county communities.

In Nokesville and Manassas, communities west of Lucasville Road and north of Prince William Parkway (Route 234) remain assigned to Brentsville High School. Communities east of Lucasville Road and north of Prince William Parkway that are currently assigned to Brentsville High School, will be reassigned to Osbourn Park High School.

Other changes mainly affect Forest Park and Osbourn Park high school attendance areas. Readers can see the details on the PWCS website.

According to Supervisor of Planning and Finance David Beavers, there are no changes to the Patriot attendance area from the previous administrative recommendations. That means that New Bristow Village is still being reassigned to Brentsville District High School.*

Beavers said 149 students from the New Bristow Village area will be affected. However, those who are seniors upon the opening of the 12th high school will not be affectedThis move will help to alleviate some of the over crowding at Patriot High School.

Citizens who wish to comment on the new boundaries proposals can do so at the May 7 School Board meeting at the Kelley Leadership Center. Residents are required to sign up ten minutes prior to the start of the meeting at 7 p.m. They can sign up in person or online on the PWCS website. There will also be a public hearing addressing the boundaries held May 21 at that Prince William School Board meeting for which residents can also sign up to speak.
