The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Northern Virginia from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday for strong gusty northwest winds, low humidity and dry air.

A Red Flag Warning is meant to alert residents that a high fire danger exists.

"A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior," the NWS said.

The weather service reports that humidity late Wednesday morning through early evening will be 20 to 25 percent, with wind gusts up to 4o mph and fuel moisture less than 8 percent.

Highs in Northern Virginia should reach 63 degrees Wednesday and 69 degrees Thursday.
