Regency Denies PostNet Lease Renewal to Make Way for Upscale Pet Store

The owner of PostNet Neighborhood Business Center of Bristow, a longtime tenant in the Braemar Village Center, announced that the Regency Centers Corporation is not renewing their lease to make way for a new pet store concept.

“After 10 years in our cozy location, Regency has decided to not renew our lease in favor of [Unleashed by Petco]. So we are on the move!” owner Julia Ryan posted on the store's Facebook page.

According to Ryan, Regency will convert her soon-to-be former space into a larger unit for Unleashed by Petco, their small footprint, upscale store. Unleashed by Petco was launched in 2009 as a smaller, neighborhood version of the company’s larger Petco stores.

"Regency's actions I'm sure were purely based on what was right for their business model," she said. "Regency Center gave us the opportunity to take over another space; however, this came with increased rent and was not financially feasible for us," she said.

PostNet will relocate to Bristow Center at Linton Hall Road and Route 28 by Aug. 1, where it will have a larger store.

"We are looking forward to our move to Bristow Center," she said. "It was very important to us to stay in Bristow because of the close relationship we have established with our community."

Ryan also said that Rapapport had been very helpful in facilitating the move, and she is looking forward to working closely with them.

Regency Centers did not respond to requests for comment on this story.
