Residents Anticipate Snow, Get Ice

Posted

To commemorate what many thought to be the region's first significant snowfall, fire works rang out over Kingsbrooke at 11:30 p.m. Friday night.

Although the teenagers' celebration was fleeting (they ran off), as dawn appeared so did the realization that the snow was mostly ice.

Like the forecast, most residents expectations were mixed; however, those who braved the morning hours to clear their paths and cars were prepared to chip away at the coating of ice.

"It's terrible outside," said Al Robinson of Kingsbrooke. "I wish would have come by and do the streets last night."

While residents hunkered down and prepared to spend  the day indoors, some took to the streets. James Kamm and his son Aidan of Kingsbrooke went to take in the scenery.

"I was not expecting a lot; if you have to go out it won't be fun," Kamm said.

Aidan seemed very disappointed that he could not make a snow ball.

The National Weather Service Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1:00 p.m. this afternoon. Freezing rain is expected to turn to rain late this morning, with temperatures rising only into the mid or upper 30's today.
