School Board on Tap to Appoint Interim Woodbridge Representative, Vice Chairman

The Prince William School Board will conduct their annual organizational meeting at Wednesday's School Board meeting, where they will fill several positions, including the vacant Woodbridge seat on an interim basis.

Nominees for the position of  interim Woodbridge representative  include Steven Keen, former two-term School Board representative; Todd McCormick, director of “The House, Inc;" William McHenry, former Marine, teacher and National Junior ROTC director; Chris Royse, two-time candidate for Board of County Supervisors; Bruce Smith, former teacher and civil rights activist; and Loree Williams, PTA President . Most of the candidates are parents and are very involved in the Woodbridge community.

During the meeting, the Board will also nominate a vice chairman, appoint a clerk and designate a proxy for the superintendent. The Board is poised to recommend Deputy Superintendent Rae Darlington as the superintendent's designee.

The Board will also be appointing individuals to represent their interests in professional organizations during the 2013 calendar year. These organizations/committees include the Virginia School Board Association (VSBA), National School Board Association (NSBA) and the Northern Virginia Special Education Regional Board. The appointed representatives will attend meetings and conventions.

They will also appoint representatives to report to Prince William County committees on Park and Recreation, Budget and Internal Audits.

The Board will also recommend that its meetings continue to be held at the Kelly Center at 14715 Bristow Road in Manassas on the first and third Wednesdays of the months January through June and September through December. Closed session meetings shall convene at 6 p.m., and public meetings shall convene at 7 p.m.
