Severe Thunderstorms, Tornado Watch Monday Evening

Posted

lightningWestern Prince William County got pounded after 4 p.m. Monday as a particularly strong line of thundershowers came through the area.

However, the National Weather Service warns that the heavy stuff may not be over.

"A Tornado Watch is in effect for the area until 8 p.m. this evening," NWS said. "Severe threats are damaging wind gusts, large hail and isolated tornadoes."

Forecasters also warn of heavy downpours and localized flooding tonight.

"There is a localized risk for flash flooding; however, storm motion should be fast enough to limit the flash flood threat," they said.

NWS expects the shower and thundershower threat to gradually diminish overnight but a few showers may linger and patchy fog could develop.
