Storms Signal End of Heat, Few Power Outages

Posted

While lacking the ferocity of last week's derecho, Sunday evening's thunderstorms did cause some isolated damage.

According to NOVEC, approximately nine homes in Nokesville lost power at the height of the storm. Along Prince William Parkway, a downed tree at Smoketown Road blocked the road and fell on power lines.

Areas west and south of Prince William suffered the most damage from the storm. Thousands are without power in Fauquier and Fredericksburg.

The National Weather Service reports that this storm signaled the end to the oppressive heat as temperatures will remain in the 80's this week. NWS does report of a weak frontal boundary that remains stalled in the area, which could produce severe storms Monday afternoon.
