#ClosePWCS and #CloseFCPS were trending locally on Twitter Thursday morning when Prince William County students received a delayed opening due to extremely cold weather. Meanwhile, neighboring school district Fairfax gave students the day off.

“Now that we have gotten #closeFCPS trending, let's help the PWCS get #ClosePWCS trending. Cuz it's, like, 3 degrees there or something,” one young lady wrote at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The Twitter hashtags seem to be mostly posted by high school students, seeing that neighboring school districts had a day off and wishing they received a full snow day as well.

After Tuesday's non-closure during a storm that accumualted 3 to 6 inches of snow, bus accidents and delays, many teens were angry about  having to attend school. To express themselves, many turned to social media, primarily Twitter.

Since #CloseFCPS had begun to trend, Prince William students tried to launch their own campaign with #ClosePWCS.

Their concern for Prince William’s decision not to cancel school spilled over into Thursday when extra cold temperatures made some roads hazardous especially in the Bull Run Mountain area where PWCS said buses were unable to pick up some students.

Cmon

While some posts and images are humorous, others are more serious, because they show buses being delayed or stuck. Most of the images were from Tuesday's storm.

Although Fairfax was closed Thursday, most #ClosePWCS tags were still followed by #CloseFCPS, perhaps to help the message trend more quickly.

One student wrote "#closeFCPS because that's the only sure way to #ClosePWCS."

A girl named Sam, wrote “the fact that nova is known for the #closeFCPS and #ClosePWCS tweets makes me so happy”

Other #ClosePWCS messages were still trending from Tuesday. One included a humorous Simpson’s cartoon, attached to the message. “This is what #CloseFCPS is saying to #ClosePWCS”" it includes a picture of Bart Simpson holding a cake that reads, "At least you tried."

“#CloseFCPS was trending, I wonder if we could get #ClosePWCS trending”

Parents picked up on the teen hashtag trend on Facebook. One woman commented that some were amusing but she was concerned about all of the spelling mistakes.

Meanwhile, some students were trying to get another hashtag trending, #FireWalts2015, in criticism of their Superintendent, Dr. Steven L. Walts who is responsible for making weather-related closing decisions.

The PWCS  thread had less of a following, but Twitter followers made it clear it was their goal to make it trend.
