UPDATED: Three Navy Yard Victims "Responsive" at MedStar Washington Hospital

Posted

A spokeswoman from MedStar Washington Hospital Center answered questions about the injured at the U.S. Navy Yard during an 11:35 a.m. press conference.

She said that multiple people have been injured, including some who have been declared deceased at the scene.

However, the three individuals being treated at MedStar are “alert and responsive.”

They include one man, a D.C. Police Officer, who was shot in her lower legs, one female shot in her shoulder and another female who was shot in her head and hands.

They are in critical condition, but the spokeswoman, who is also a doctor, said doctors at the hospital believe they will survive.

“Chances of survival are very good for all three,” she said.

The injured, who are still in pain, were not able to give too much information; however, she said they heard “gunshots in rapid succession,” likely meaning the gunmen were using a semi-automatic.

UPDATE: A spokesperson for George Washington Hospital said that the first victim to be transported, a 60-year-old-male, died of a head injury within a minute of his arrival to the hospital.

"The injury was not survivable," he said.

All three of the injured were shot inside of the Navy Yard.
