The National Weather Service has issued tornado watch in effect until 10 p.m. this evening for the D.C. metro area, including Prince William County.

The watch extends up to Baltimore, Maryland and down into Central Virginia.

Thunderstorms may become severe with a threat of damaging wind gusts, large hail and an isolated tornado.

In the Gainesville-Manassas area, Monday, showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly after 5 p.m. Storms could be severe with hail and heavy winds. South winds will be around 13 miles per hour with gusts as high as 23 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Monday night showers and thunderstorms are likely before midnight. There is a slight chance of showers between midnight and 3 a.m. Again, some storms could be severe with hale and winds. Southwest winds predicted at 7 to 11 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
