Detectives from the Physical Abuse Unit arrested two area residents Feb. 12 and 13, in a child abuse investigation. Police report that the individuals had abused a two-year-old repeatedly over a four-month period in the 7900 block of Meadow Court. "The investigation revealed that the victim, a two-year old boy, had been struck multiple times by the accused, a family member, with a belt between Nov. 2012 and Feb. 2013," police spokesman Officer Jonathan Perok said. "The victim sustained lacerations as a result." Police charged Maria Del Rosario Moreno Najera, 20, and Carlos Daniel Cortez, 29, both of Manassas with child abuse. Cortez was additionally charged with cruelty and injuries to children. The suspects' court date was not immediately available. Both are being held without bond.
