The remains of 8-year-old German Shepherd Maddie were discovered Monday.

Prince William County Police have possibly identified a person involved in the incident.

Original Story:

Prince William County Police are investigating the death of a 5-month-old German Shepherd who was reported missing Nov. 6 from a Nokesville home off Lonesome Road.

The puppy, Zoey, was found by the owner on her own property Sunday.

"The owner was checking their property, which is considerably large, and located the 5-month-old female named Zoey deceased with evidence of trauma," police spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Perok said.

Police could not confirm the cause of death, but the owners believe that the puppy was shot.

"The owner declined to allow us to take possession of the animal so we could not confirm the injury through necropsy; so we cannot at this time confirm the cause of death," he said.

A family friend told Bristow Beat that the puppy was found with the help of a search and rescue dog about 50 yards from a deer stand on another property.

The family's other dog, 8-year-old Maddie is still missing; the family assumes that she too is deceased as she has not returned home.
