VDOT Announces I-66 Lane Closures Throughout Week

Posted

I-66_trafficTo accommodate the ongoing widening of I-66 from the west side of the Gainesville Interchange to the west side of the Route 15/James Madison Interchange, the Virginia Department of Transportation will close lanes between April 6 to April 10.

Closures are planned during off-peak hours to avoid hindering residents’ commute.

Lane closures could occur:

  • Between noon and 4 p.m. on Tuesday and between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday on eastbound I-66.
  • Between 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and between 7 a.m. and noon on Friday on westbound I-66.

“When lane closures are expected, they can be anywhere within the project and shift locations daily within the project,” a VDOT spokesperson said in a statement. “In addition, these are dates that the Contractor has permission to close lanes, it does not necessarily mean there will be lane closures on all days.”

VDOT said lane closures could change and are subject to weather conditions.
