The Virginia Department of Transportation announced that major traffic shifts resulting from the $230 million Route 29/Linton Hall Road Interchange project will occur overnight Tuesday, May 26. Route 29 traffic will shift to a new bridge, the I-66 ramp will re-open, and the Linton Hall signal will be removed.

"Traffic on southbound Route 29 between I-66 and Linton Hall Road will be shifted onto the new bridge over the railroad tracks and the ramp from eastbound I-66 to southbound Route 29 (at Exit 43A) will be re-opened," VDOT spokesperson  Jenni McCord said. "In addition, the traffic signal at Route 29 and Linton Hall Road/Route 55 will be removed, with Linton Hall/Route 55 traffic being shifted onto the new overpass. All activities are weather permitting."

The next phase of the project, to complete the ramps from Route 55 to southbound Route 29 and from northbound Route 29 to Linton Hall, will begin after the the traffic shift.

"The final Gainesville traffic switch is scheduled to occur this summer with the completion of all ramps connecting Linton Hall/Route 55 to Route 29," she said.

VDOT will significantly detour traffic while they work on these ramps.

"Motorists heading from northbound Route 29 to eastbound Linton Hall and from eastbound Route 55 to southbound Route 29 will be detoured via temporary ramps," she said.  "Those on westbound Linton Hall heading to southbound Route 29 will be detoured via Wellington Road and University Boulevard."
