VDOT Stages Roads Aheads of Blizzard; Urges Residents to Stay Home

Posted

VDOT PlowsAs the Blizzard of 2016 approaches, the Virginia Department of Transportation ask residents to stay off the roads Friday and Saturday as crews and trucks prepare to deploy for this dangerous winter storm.

"Yesterday, crews treated bridges, ramps and other spots prone to freezing on interstates and major roads in northern Virginia with anti-icing materials in advance of the storm," VDOT spokesperson Jenni McCord said.

VDOT will deploy about 4,000 trucks loaded with materials along interstates, major roads and subdivision streets by 2 p.m. throughout the region, including Prince William County.

"Crews will work 12-hour shifts around the clock and plow interstates, major roads and subdivisions simultaneously," McCord said.

VDOT suggests residents avoid driving Friday and Saturday as road conditions will be treacherous

"Plows will need as much room as possible to safely make continual passes on roads," she said.

Furthermore, residents should park in driveways or on the odd-numbered side of the street before the snow begins, to allow plows room to clear the road ahead.

VDOT will update road conditions at www.511virginia.org and plowing progress at www.vdotplows.org.
