As the Blizzard of 2016 has come to an end, the Virginia Department of Transportation asks residents to stay home Sunday as they begin the massive clean-up effort.

As residents begin to dig out of a reported 32 inches of snow in some areas of western Prince William County, VDOT, Prince William County Police and county government officials urge residents to stay off local roads.

"The public is asked for patience and to continue to shelter in place as crews proceed with their work," a VDOT spokesperson said. "Drivers should stay off the roads to give crews room to continue to keep up with rapid accumulation and blowing and drifting snow."

VDOT has deployed close to 4,000 trucks will plow through the night on interstates, major roads and subdivisions in Loudoun, Fairfax and Prince William counties.

Contrary to some reports on social media, VDOT crews have not suspended operations at any time in any location.

Residents can check the progress of VDOT's plows at www.vdotplows.org.
