The Virginia Department of Transportation will continue to close lanes on I-66 this week for its widening project from the west side of the Gainesville Interchange to the west side of the Route 15/James Madison Interchange.

Closures are planned during off-peak hours to avoid hindering residents’ commute.

Lane closures could occur:

  • Between 10 a.m.  and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday on eastbound I-66.
  • Between 7 a.m.  and 2:30 p.m.  Monday through Thursday and between 7 a.m. and Noon on Friday on westbound I-66.

“When lane closures are expected, they can be anywhere within the project and shift locations daily within the project,” a VDOT spokesperson said in a statement. “In addition, these are dates that the Contractor has permission to close lanes, it does not necessarily mean there will be lane closures on all days.”

VDOT said lane closures could change and are subject to weather conditions.
