Walgreens Anticipates Opening within Week

Cathy Tarr, Walgreens' community store leader in the Manassas region, announced Walgreens will open its new Bristow store on the corner of Linton Hall Road and Devlin Road in approximately one week, pending final inspections.

Tarr said Bristow was an obvious fit for the pharmaceutical and convenience chain, which has opened 40 new locations in the D.C. metro area over the past few years.

“People of Bristow need something new in the community,” Tarr said, “We were thinking of all the homes around (the new location.)”

She believes the new store will be convenient for Bristow residents, who could pick up milk and bread in their neighborhood. Although she has opened the Walgreens in Gainesville in 2009, Tarr recognized that people in Bristow would rather stay local than brave the traffic near Virginia Gateway.

She also believes neighborhood stores match the philosophy of Walgreens to incorporate themselves in the communities the serve.

“When our pharmacists have patients, they really want to know who you are. They’ll talk to you about your medication,” Tarr said.

Walgreens is expanding that service, now offering limited medical services such as immunizations.

Walgreens is so confident that the Bristow location will be successful that they bought the land at the intersection of what will be Bristow Commons.

Tarr is encouraged by the growth of the area and the upscale businesses and retail to come in Bristow Commons.

She is also excited for residents to see the new design of the Bristow Walgreens, which she describes as modern with natural light and a new layout.

“Absolutely beautiful,” said Tarr, who explained the store is different from the Gainesville location.

Walgreens is a 100-year old company, though it is new to Virginia. Over the last ten years they have moved into new markets, acquiring pharmacies from other companies in New York, New Jersey and northern California.

Walgreens at the new Bristow location will be offering sales and specials to its new customers during the days after its grand opening.
