Prince William County Fire & Rescue units were dispatched Monday night to a structure fire in a two-story, single-family home located in the 4800 block of Midy Lane in Gainesville.

“The resident was awakened by a smoke detector sounding and had already safely evacuated when fire and rescue units arrived,” said Prince William County Fire & Rescue Public Information Specialist Kim Hylander. “The fire, which started in a recessed light on the second floor, was quickly extinguished by firefighters.”

No one in the house was injured, she said.

A representative from the Building Official’s office preliminary estimate of the damage is approximately $50,000.

According to investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office, the cause of this fire was classified as accidental.
