In what will likely be a difficult budget season for Prince William County Schools, with reportedly less money available than the previous year, Superintendent of Schools Steven L Walts will present his 2013-2014 operating budget to the School Board Jan. 6.
Walts will also deliver the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) for 2014-23 at the meeting.
Residents who wish to address the School Board and offer input on the proposed budget will have the opportunity Feb. 11.at 7 p.m. in Room 1101 of the Kelly Leadership Center. Speakers will be limited to two minutes each.
"The public will have an opportunity to share their views on the proposed budget when Superintendent Walts and school finance officials present the proposed budget to the public on Feb. 11," Community Relations Supervisor Irene L. Cromersaid. "Chairman At-Large Milton C. Johns will preside over the public comment portion of the meeting that will follow the budget presentation."
Individuals who wish to speak, must sign up at the door before 7:00 p.m. Feb. 11.
The Board will hold budget work sessions following their public meetings on Feb. 20 and Mar. 6, with the final markup on the budget scheduled for Mar. 13. They will present the final FY 2014 plan to the public Mar. 20.
"An official public hearing is slated for Wednesday, March 20, following which the School Board is scheduled to approve the Superintendent’s Proposed FY 2014 Budget," Cromer said.
Following approval of the budget by the School Board, they will then present it to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors at a date to be announced.
