Weekend Beat: See Where Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Santa Claus is coming to town this week. For all you kids from one to 92, there are holiday events that are sure to bring you some good cheer.

Throughout the Season

As part of his fire department tour across the country, Old St. Nick will make stops in Bristow on Saturday and Sunday via Nokesville Fire and Rescue. Santa will ride on Fire Engine 55, and visit Bristow neighborhoods to hand out candy to children who have been good this year. He will also make an appearance at the Nokesville Christmas Parade. The Hylton Planetarium at Hylton High School in Woodbridge presents “Holiday Lights” on Friday nights from 6-10 p.m. throughout December. The lazer show will be set to traditional and modern music. Tickets are $10. Find out more information here.

Fauquier Community Theater on 4225 Aiken Drive in Warrenton presents “An O. Henry Christmas” featuring two heartwarming musicals based on O. Henry stories: “The Gift of the Magi” and “The Last Leaf.” Both are tales of love and sacrifice. Show times are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday. The shows are running Dec. 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 Tickets are $13-15.

It's that time of year again. Every year, Northern Virginia looks forward to the Festival of Lights at Bull Run Park in Centreville. Load the family into the car, bring along a hot-coco and sing holiday carols as you pass an amazing light show! This year there are 40,000 lights set to music! Get a three dollars off coupon here.

All throughout the holidays, Shrek will be brought to life with "Shrek the Halls,” a holiday ice attraction at Gaylord National at the National Harbor. It features 20-feet tall ice slides and attractions with the Shrek characters. It is the perfect Christmas treat for children. Tickets are $13.99-$26.99 per person. This Weekend Only

At 3 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 8 and Sunday, Dec. 9, the Northern Virginia Youth Ballet presents the Christmas Classic, “The Nutcracker” at Patriot High School auditorium on Kettle Run Road. Buy tickets in advance for a discount. They range from $17-25 per person. Find out more here.

Grammy-nominated fiddler Natalie McMasters performs “Christmas in Cape Brenton” at Hylton Peformance Art Center. It’s a musical sleigh ride through Nova Scotia in this spirited holiday performance. Her show features Christmas carols, traditional and contemporary Celtic melodies as well as her own legendary fiddling and explosive step-dancing. Tickets are $32-50 but free for GMU students with their IDs. Performance begins at 8 p.m. in Merchant Hall. Find out more here.

Check out Nokesville’s First Annual Christmas Parade brought to you by the folks at the Nokesville Business Association. The parade starts at 3:30 at Nokesville Elementary on Fitzwater and travels down to Brethren Church at 5 p.m. for a nativity lighting. Children can meet Santa and everyone can bring donations for SERVE. More info here.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the historians and volunteers at Ben Lomond Historic Site will present a hands-on tour about the lives of enslaved people during the Christmas season. Tours begin at 11 and leave every hour. $5 per person, children under six are free. Read about it here.
