WEATHER BEAT: Taste of Fall This Weekend

Posted

After a mild start to October, big changes are on the way with a strong cold front, which has already triggered some nasty storms in parts of Illinois and Indiana.

Strong storms with wind gusts as high as 75 mph have already impacted parts of the Midwest Thursday afternoon as a strong cold front swept across that part of the country. Locally, the timing of the cold front passing through during the overnight hours will allow us to dodge the worst of the storms; however, some areas could see as much as half an inch of rain.

After the rain moves out Saturday morning, I’m expecting partly cloudy skies in the afternoon with cool highs only in the mid-60s, but the breezy conditions could make it feel even cooler than that. Saturday night will be extremely cold with many areas dipping to the mid-30s, and some areas will get pretty close to freezing, especially the further north and west you travel.

If you are heading out to sunrise services on Sunday morning, you could find yourself doing a little scraping depending on how low it goes. By Sunday afternoon, we will warm to the mid-60s. Temperatures will be a little warmer by Monday with highs back in the 70s.

Bundle up and stay warm as we enjoy our first taste of fall. The excitement is just beginning!

My favorite thing to do is study the weather. It is truly fascinating. Nothing beats a good thunderstorm. I became very interested in weather when I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years and was actually inside a super typhoon.”
