Dangerous Cold Follows Snow

thermometerAs the snow tapers off Tuesday morning, the next weather threat comes in the form of an "exceptionally cold airmass" that will engulf the area Thursday, potentially bringing low temperatures below zero degrees.

High temperatures will struggle to make it the teens and low temperatures will be in the single digits and dip below zero across the entire area, anNational Weather Service  forecaster said.

High's Thursday are expected to reach 16 degrees, with actual lows potentially falling to -3 degrees.

"This magnitude of cold air combined with it's duration will prove very dangerous to anyone who is not prepared," they said.

Forecasters call for temperatures to moderate slightly toward freezing later in the weekend as the next storm system approaches the area.

According to the NWS, the last time the temperature in the D.C. Metro area dipped below zero was  Jan. 19 1994.
