With low pressure systems moving into the area this week, National Weather Service forecasters said residents may see some snow overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

"The combination of energy from the upper low and the surface front should cause precipitation to develop across the area," NWS forecasters said. "Best chance for snow late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning will be over the higher elevations of  West Virginia and western Maryland then spreading east across the during the day Wednesday."

However, they admit there is uncertainty over when the precipitation might begin and if it will be cold enough to support snow.

"There is a chance precipitation will start as snow during the morning rush and then change to rain as surface temps moderate during the day, but there is also potential that it may hold off until later in the morning," they said.

Temperatures generally will be in the upper 20s to low 30s Tuesday night and Wednesday with some areas staying above freezing. Wednesday highs should reach the low 40s.
