Heat, Storms Return this Weekend

heatwaveWhile residents have been enjoying lower humidity this week, higher temperatures and humidity return this weekend with the chance of thunderstorms and showers.

According to National Weather Service forecasters, the combination of temperatures in the 90s with dewpoints in the 70s will cause heat indices to rise to the upper 90s to lower 100s across the area.

"A subtropical will remain centered over the Atlantic into the southeast Saturday and Sunday," he said. "The highest heat indices are expected near and east of Interstate 95."

The heat and humidity will lead to an unstable atmosphere Saturday and Sunday, ushering in the chance for significant precipitation.

"Despite the lack of a strong lifting mechanism, the heat and moisture will be enough to bring the chance for showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening hours each day," he said. "Slow storm movement does suggest that heavy rain may cause a concern for localized flash flooding.
