NWS Issues Flash Flood Watch

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the area from Friday morning through Saturday evening.

According to the NWS, rain will increase in intensity across the area Friday and continue into Saturday.

"Rain totals of 2-3 inches are expected west of the Blue Ridge, with 3-6 inches expected between the Blue Ridge and the Chesapeake Bay," they said. "Locally higher amounts will be possible; heavy rain could fall over a short period of time on saturated soils, which could lead to flash flooding."

There is also the potential for flooding of small streams as well as poor drainage areas; mudslides could occur in steep terrains.
