The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the region for March 3, 12 a.m. through 6 p.m.
According to the weather service, precipitation will begin as rain Sunday night, but as temperatures drop to the upper 20's freezing rain, snow and sleet are possible before becoming all snow.
The NWS warns of potential for hazardous travel overnight Sunday from ice accumulations on roads and snow, which could be heavy at times, Monday. A Winter Storm Watch is issued when there is the potential for significant precipitation that may impact travel.
Wind will be blustery Monday, with a north wind 16 to 21 mph.
"It is March, but it is not entirely rare for snow to fall. Using as a representation for the coverage area, in the lat 52 years of observation, there has been 13 snowfalls of 4 inches or more, the last being, March 2, 2009," an NWS forecaster said.
