NWS Prepares Region for Potential Impact of Tropical Storm Karen

Posted

As Tropical Storm Karen approaches the region, the National Weather Service of Baltimore/Washington reports several possible weather scenarios.

If the storm takes a slower western track, Monday evening, the area will see heavy rain up to four inches, localized flash flooding in both rural and urban centers and the potential threat of tornadoes, the NWS said.

However, if Karen travels a faster, more eastern track, the region will only see moderate rain, with little threat of flooding.

The NWS forecasts that most likely the region will see one to three inches of heavy rain Monday into Tuesday with up to four inches in some areas east of the Blue Ridge Mountains; isolated flooding is possible.

"The window of possibilities will narrow as we near the event," they said.
